12m STS Crane Raise — Port of Tacoma
The Challenge
ZPMC USA was engaged to raise four existing ZPMC STS cranes by 12 meters at Everport Terminal Services’ facility at the Port of Tacoma, repositioning each crane into the work bay and then onto the dock in its final alignment. The project, ZPMC USA Job No. 2253CNS20, required all new fabrications—including legs, K-bracing, and main and intermediate equalizers—to be manufactured in Shanghai and shipped to Tacoma.
Our Approach
ZPMC USA utilized proprietary ZPMC Crane Jacking Towers to raise each crane and ZPMC transport equipment—SPMTs, PPUs, and Crane Carrying Girders—to reposition the cranes as needed around the dock. All new fabrications were delivered from Shanghai and integrated on-site.
Outcome
All four ZPMC STS cranes at Everport Terminal Services Tacoma were successfully raised without incident over the course of two years. A significant portion of the work was executed during the COVID-19 pandemic, requiring careful coordination and safety management throughout.
