Modular, computer-controlled heavy transport systems capable of moving fully assembled STS cranes and oversized structures with 360-degree maneuverability and millimeter-level positioning precision.
SPMTs are highly specialized heavy-haul transport systems designed to safely move exceptionally large, heavy, and oversized structures that exceed the capabilities of conventional transportation equipment. In port environments, they play a vital role in the delivery, relocation, installation, and commissioning of Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes, Rubber-Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes, structural modules, and other heavy industrial assets.
How They Work
Each SPMT module incorporates multiple axle lines, hydraulic suspension cylinders, steering mechanisms, and integrated power systems. Through sophisticated electronic controls, individual modules link together and operate as a single transport platform — enabling engineers to design transport configurations specifically tailored to each load’s weight, distribution, center of gravity, and travel path constraints.
Modern STS cranes frequently exceed 1,500 to 2,000 metric tons in operating weight. Using engineered SPMT transport systems, these cranes can often be relocated as complete structures rather than being dismantled into multiple components — significantly reducing project duration, minimizing operational downtime, and lowering overall project risk.
Key Capabilities
- Hydraulic suspension for lifting, lowering, and leveling loads over uneven ground
- Independent multi-directional steering with 360° maneuverability in confined environments
- Modular axle-line configurations scalable to varying load sizes and weights
- Computer-controlled synchronization ensuring uniform load distribution across all modules
- Precise load positioning with millimeter-level control
Port and Terminal Applications
SPMTs are used throughout the maritime and logistics industries for transportation of fully assembled STS cranes from assembly yards to operational berths, relocation of container handling equipment within active terminals, movement of crane booms and major structural components, and support of crane erection, commissioning, modernization, and expansion projects.
