Boom Extension Frames

Purpose-built structural support systems for STS crane boom outreach expansion, maintaining precise alignment and load control throughout cutting, splicing, and welding operations.

Purpose-built structural support systems for STS crane boom outreach expansion, maintaining precise alignment and load control throughout cutting, splicing, and welding operations.

ZPMC USA owns and deploys specialized boom extension frame systems designed to support Ship-to-Shore (STS) crane modernization programs that increase crane outreach and terminal operating capability. As vessel dimensions continue to increase across global shipping networks, many terminal operators face the challenge of handling wider container ships with cranes designed for smaller vessel classes. ZPMC USA’s boom extension systems help ports increase outreach and extend the operational life of existing assets — without the cost and disruption of full crane replacement.

How Boom Extension Systems Work

A boom extension frame is a purpose-designed structural support system used during the installation of new boom sections on an existing STS crane. Each system is engineered to maintain structural stability, alignment, and load control throughout the modification process while providing safe access and working conditions for construction personnel.

During a typical outreach expansion project, the crane boom is prepared and secured before being separated at a designated structural splice location. ZPMC USA’s engineered boom extension frame system is then installed to support the existing structure and establish the precise alignment required for the new extension section. Once in place, the new structural segment is lifted, positioned, and integrated into the crane boom. Structural connections, welding, and mechanical installations are completed while the extension frame maintains stability and alignment throughout the process.
