ZPMC USA owns and deploys specialized Angel Wing Access Systems — engineered suspended platform systems specifically developed for Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes and other large steel structures where conventional access methods are impractical or insufficient. These systems provide secure working platforms that enable personnel to safely perform structural, mechanical, electrical, and coating activities at significant elevations while maintaining productivity and compliance with stringent safety standards.

The Access Challenge on Large Cranes

Large container cranes present unique access challenges due to their size, geometry, and operating environment. Projects frequently occur at elevations exceeding 100 to 200 feet above the terminal surface. Angel Wing Access Systems are engineered to attach directly to crane structures, providing suspended work platforms that extend outward from the boom, girder, or structural framework — creating stable and continuous access corridors directly adjacent to active work areas.

This reduces reliance on aerial lifts and other temporary access methods, supports simultaneous work by multiple trades, and allows crews to remain productive throughout extended project schedules.

Key System Features

  • Engineered suspended access platforms designed for project-specific applications
  • Secure attachment systems integrated with crane structures
  • Continuous work access along booms, girders, and structural members
  • Guardrails, toe boards, and integrated fall protection systems
  • Access ladders and controlled personnel movement pathways
  • Material staging and tool storage capabilities
  • Custom mounting assemblies to accommodate individual crane configurations

Typical Applications

Angel Wing Access Systems are routinely utilized during STS crane boom extension projects, crane heightening and modernization programs, structural steel repair and reinforcement, crane rail replacement and runway rehabilitation, welding and fabrication work, protective coating and corrosion mitigation, mechanical and electrical system installations, and inspection, testing, and commissioning activities.
